Irene Barnes Koon, 97, of Union Mills, died Monday, April 24, 2006 at White Oak Nursing Home. Born in Rutherford County, she was preceded in death by her mother, Lula Mae (Morehead) Barnes, her father, Harvey Alexander Barnes and her husband, Jackson Lee Koon. She was a retired school teacher. She was a member of Round Hill Baptist Church, Union Mills where she was a former pianist/organist, BTU, WMU and Sunday School teacher. Surviving are her grandson, Maxwell Robert Robinson Jr. of Union Mills; a son-in-law, Maxwell Robert Robinson Sr. of Union Mills; two nieces, Melba Swofford of Marion and Elayne Wiseman of Marion; a nephew, Wayne Simpson of Marion; a great-niece, Paula Jo Radier of Black Mountain; a great-nephew, Tod Bradley of Marion; and a great-great-nephew, Shawn McCurry of Marion. The visitation will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at Crowe's Funeral Home, Rutherfordton. The service will be held by the Rev. Lynn Williamson at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at Crowe's Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Round Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Union Mills.
