Welcome to Alexander Schools, Inc.
V.T. COOPER SCHOLARSHIP
Award Recipients
1999 - 2005
The Class of 2005 was the last graduating class to have had any former students of the Union Mills Middle School, thereby ending the continuation of the V. T. Cooper Scholarship as funded by a former alumni of Alexander Schools, Inc.
The $500 scholarship was established by the Union Mills Middle
School Parent-Teacher Organization in 1998 to honor the 100 years of
education in the Union Mills community.
The second $500 scholarship had been awarded yearly in memory of the
late V. T. Cooper, a long-time teacher at the former Alexander
Schools, Inc., thanks to a donation by a former student to the
Alexander Schools Alumni Association.
Community support of education began in Union Mills in 1899, when Round Hill Baptist Church founded a high school to prepare local students for higher education. Round Hill Academy became Alexander Schools, Inc. both a boarding school and community school until the 1970’s. Union Mills closed in 1999.
